Description

I remembered an essay by Loren Eiseley on his encounters with an injured gull that has always stuck with me

Photo reference by Andrew Kenny

This is my second attempt at depicting nocturnal migration

and the Chestnut-sided Warbler is a good example of why : ) Wanted a simple treatment for this as I felt the bird here does most of the heavy lifting

a Wood Thrush over open water at night

Maple Light - Swainson's Thrush | Original migrationseries I remembered an essay byMaple Light Swainson's Thrush 27x19 Pastel on Pastelmat I love the way the light filters through the forest foliage and always wanted to a drawing of it, so here it is! I went with a Swainson's Thrush (Catharus Ustulatus) here, a favourite northern species of mine with a haunting voice. Also depicted are Sugar Maple (Acer Saccharum) leaves and a few flying insects for some added spice. Swainson's Thrush reference photo thanks to Michael Stubblefield
